History of Good Samaritan Health Services

Good Samaritan Health Services began in 1998 to meet an urgent need in the Tulsa community: Tulsa’s poorest citizens needed quality free medical care in a safe, convenient and supportive environment. Good Samaritan Health Services began by holding free clinics at Tulsa area apartment complexes in high-need neighborhoods.

In 1999, Good Samaritan Health Services unveiled its first mobile medical unit, a refurbished 37-foot recreational vehicle and began to partner with local churches which provided facilities and volunteers for patient check-in, triage, and counseling.

By 2007, Good Samaritan Health Services was in need of a second mobile medical unit. "Big Sam" (a 63 foot tractor trailer) began serving Tulsa in the summer of 2007. New clinic sites and the number of patients visits doubled to over 7,000 per year.

Progress

Today, Good Samaritan Health Services provides more than 700 patient visits every month at its 40 monthly clinics at 14 locations across the greater Tulsa County. Each month, over 150 volunteers donate over 2,000 hours while serving at the clinic sites.

Good Samaritan Health Services, by being mobile, is able to provide medical care wherever the community needs it the most. All medical services are free of charge and include doctor consultation, labs and radiology, and prescription medicines. Patients with needs from urgent care to chronic disease management are cared for at the medical clinics.
